Opportunities for Qualified Teachers and Specialist Tutors
Path To Potential Tutoring is growing, and we are looking for skilled, reliable and compassionate professionals to provide personalised one-to-one education for children and young people across Cheshire East and surrounding areas.
We welcome applications through two distinct routes:
Qualified Teachers who hold Qualified Teacher Status
Specialist Tutors who may not hold QTS but have suitable expertise through a relevant degree, strong subject knowledge or substantial experience as a teaching assistant
We recognise that excellent tutors can bring different qualifications, skills and professional backgrounds. Each applicant is considered according to their experience, specialist knowledge and suitability for the learners and assignments available.
About the Role
Tutors work with Path To Potential Tutoring on a self-employed subcontractor basis.
Assignments may include:
Private tuition
Home-education provision
School and local-authority tuition
EOTAS
Alternative provision
Support for learners with SEND or SEMH needs
GCSE, Functional Skills or SATs preparation
Practical, vocational or interest-led learning
Most face-to-face sessions take place in learners’ homes, schools, libraries or other suitable community settings. Online opportunities may also be available.
Tutors remain free to accept or decline individual assignments. Work and hours cannot be guaranteed.
What Tutors Are Responsible For
Depending on the assignment, tutors may be responsible for:
Planning personalised one-to-one learning
Adapting teaching to the learner’s needs and starting point
Delivering engaging and appropriately challenging sessions
Assessing and monitoring progress
Writing concise professional session summaries
Uploading session records to the relevant platform
Communicating professionally with parents, carers, schools and other authorised professionals
Following safeguarding, data-protection and health-and-safety procedures
Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Raising concerns promptly through the correct safeguarding process
Who We Are Looking For
Qualified Teachers
We welcome applications from qualified primary and secondary teachers, including:
Current and former classroom teachers
Primary teachers with experience across the curriculum
Secondary subject specialists
Teachers with SEND, SEMH, EOTAS or alternative-provision experience
Teachers experienced in SATs, GCSEs or Functional Skills
Specialist Tutors
Qualified Teacher Status is not essential for all tutoring opportunities.
We also welcome applications from Specialist Tutors who can demonstrate relevant expertise through:
A degree in the subject they wish to teach
Strong subject knowledge and relevant tutoring experience
Substantial experience as a teaching assistant
Experience supporting learners with SEND or SEMH needs
Specialist experience in alternative provision, EOTAS, mentoring, practical learning, vocational education or re-engagement
Relevant professional, technical, creative or sporting qualifications and experience
Specialist Tutors must be able to demonstrate that they have the knowledge, experience and personal qualities required for the particular assignment.
Every tutor will only be matched with assignments that are appropriate for their qualifications, experience and areas of expertise.

Reflective and willing to continue developing their practice
Experience of supporting autism, ADHD, PDA profiles, dyslexia, SEMH needs, Emotionally Based School Avoidance or other barriers to education would be particularly valuable for some assignments.
Pay and Assignments
There is no single fixed tutor rate. The fee for each assignment is agreed before it is accepted and may vary according to:
The location and travel required
The tutor’s qualifications and specialist experience
The learner’s needs and the complexity of the provision
Planning, reporting or professional responsibilities
Whether tuition is delivered face-to-face or online
The length and frequency of the sessions
Full details will be provided before a tutor decides whether to accept an assignment. Tutors submit invoices for completed work, with payment arrangements explained as part of the subcontractor agreement.

Our Recruitment Process
Path To Potential Tutoring follows a safer-recruitment process. This will normally include:
Completion of the online application form
Initial application review and shortlisting
Interview and suitability assessment
Verification of identity, qualifications and professional status
Two satisfactory references
Enhanced DBS and barred-list checks where applicable
Right-to-work and overseas checks where required
A proportionate online search as part of safer recruitment
Safeguarding induction and completion of the subcontractor agreement
Appointments and assignments remain conditional until all required checks have been completed satisfactorily.
